Mid weekend greetings to all of my wonderful readers! I hope this finds you happy and relaxed. I am in East Hampton for a long weekend, and wanted to give you a feeling for this special place, that is not quite as one-dimensional as you might know, but every bit as spectacular. My summer Hamptons weekend:
The Hamptons are well-known and fairly so, as a playground for the rich and famous. However, it is also home to real folks who live here year round, and has a wide demographic variety. Sag Harbor is well known as a fishing village, and it is the quaintest part of the Hampton, but it is peppy and peppered with celebs in the summer. Everything is manicured, even a city owned town hall or municipal center.
The terrain is spectacular. The beaches are lovely, but the wooded greens, farm fields in the high sun, and golf courses are the perfect and richest hues of blues and greens. Farm stands abound, the goods are fresh and locally grown, if quite expensive ( a pie can cost you $30.00!) There is nothing quite like fresh strawberries and watermelon to complete a summer hamptons weekend.
There are many local wineries now and some of the wine produced is top-notch. The food is delicious and often features locally caught seafood. expertly prepared and beautifully served. The photo of me in the opening collage was taken near the wharf of Sag Harbor before dinner at the American Hotel, one of my favorites in the village for its traditional fare and somewhat more formal setting. You can go to a restaurant in the Hamptons that serves a piece of fish for $62.00 in shorts and a tee-shirt. I am wearing a dress that I found on eBay and a blouse from F21 in the color of local peaches.
I took this shot in Southampton while shopping for new furniture. I do think it portrays the tone that I am trying to illustrate. Many places in the Hamptons are unspoiled, and not every Hamptons summer weekend is about clubbing and celeb sightings. Yes, there are some limos, but as often as not, there are people strolling on bikes.
I love this mini aquarium! Where is it?? It is in the pharmacy in East Hampton amidst very pricey sundries and perfumes, in splendid arrangement and perfect lighting. Can you find Rolaids here? Yes, but have to hunt...
My summer Hamptons weekend was perfect. The weather was splendid, with warm sun in the day, and coolish nights. I am enjoying it while I can, because soon it will be August and really hot. When that happens, my summer Hamptons weekend will not be spoiled, I will just go to an ocean or bay beach and cool off.
Did I happen to mention there is fabulous ice cream here??
Enjoy your Sunday, may you be unfettered with work and stress. Cheers!
