Dreary Monday salutations. What else can I say?Over the weekend I paired a dressy sweatshirt with a fur trimmed skirt, and took this outfit to dinner and cocktails. When it got cold later, I added a pleather vest, and and a blue linked necklace.
The sweatshirt shimmers in a tweedy metallic, and has lace and chiffon in the inside portion. The materials read dressy, but the silhouette reads casual. Perfect for a favorite versatile piece.
The faux fur skims my knees and adds some warmth. Next time I wear this it will be with booties or tall boots. Here are photos of just the skirt and dressy sweatshirt.
A close up of the sweatshirt, skirt and three bracelets that I wore!
The skirt was purchased at the Retreat Boutique thrift store in Bridgehampton, NY, with proceeds going to battered women. I love buying here, the selection is wonderful, the quality is great, and it is nice when your dollars go to good causes. And, of course, there are bargains to be had. My skirt is Laundry, and cost $15.00! My dressy sweatshirt is from the children's department of TJ MAXX. Was it $5? Maybe $8? I do know remember, but it was a steal and fits me well. The pleather vest was purchased three years ago, in the children's section of Obligato, an upscale store on one of the main shopping streets in East Hampton. It was not expensive either.
The bracelets you have seen, too. The rhinestone and leather is the first, the middle one is rhinestone and woven sterling, the one closest to my sleeve is a vintage piece from Manhattan Arts and Antiques. It is old enough to fit my tiny wrist, and made of marquis shaped sapphires and round diamonds in platinum. I love to mix high and low, and one can not tell from a distance! Also, you know how I love a stacked wrist.
On the rooftop, again. The colors are much more wintry. Sob. Here I am with the added layer, and the linked necklace of milky blue.
Now, the bag. You have likely seen this before. It is Lederer de Paris on Madison Avenue and not Hermes, but also made by hand in France, and pricey, but about half of what Hermes charges, as I remember. I believe a Lizard Kelly from Hermes would be somewhere about 30,000 USD, don't quote me on that, and my best guess is that it would be currently at Lederer, in lizard between $6,000 to $8,000 conservatively. Anyway, I bought it 10 years ago for $200.00 on Ebay, and have loved it ever since. Another Elle story with a happy ending, perfect for this dreary day.
Here I am small ( even in my Vince Camuto heels) on the rooftop, 22 stories high in the air. Glad for the vista, but longing for the stronger sun that was here just a bit ago. All at once, inquisitive, I wonder what might befall my city? Danger seems to lurk around every corner and headline, real or imagined. I am still. Then I collect myself, zip the vest a tad higher for warmth, and head downstairs to call my daughter and firm up dinner plans. As I said, a happy ending. Even hubby takes off early!
