Happy chilly weekend ! To those of you blessed with warmer temps, I wish I were there! My hubby and ventured out to East Hampton, a favorite place, but weather not withstanding, it is even better in the off-season! The streets are quieter, the sky so full of color. A photo from my drive in:
Living in Manhattan, I miss seeing the sky. In my neighborhood, like most, there are so many tall buildings it is hard to see the sky, except in blue cloudy snippets. I am fortunate though, with a roof garden, I have a good view, but I don't get up there so often. Being in the country I find myself relishing the light of this picturesque haven.
This autumn, which is brilliant on good days, but bleak on darker days, I am always surprised how quickly night falls. About 25 minutes after taking the opening shot, I captured this:
But we did arrive happily, dropped off our dog, and went to dinner at Race Lane. Race Lane is a favorite eatery, and in the off season there is 33.00 prix fix that is delicious. The restaurant was half full, so different from in the high season, and a crackling fireplace greeted us.
Quieter roads, easier to access restaurants, movie theatres that are not packed to capacity, are real treats. Still, it is busier here than years past. Two weeks ago it was jam-packed with young families eager to get the Halloween pumpkin for the holiday, fresh from the patches!
Also, it is a great time to shop. The traditional stores will start their sales after Thanksgiving, as per usual. But now is the time to hit the thrift stores! And indeed I did! Voila!
This suede bootie is pretty fabulous, no? It did not come in the glass compote, obviously, but I do love to arrange things... I paid $ 15.00 for these and they are in perfect condition, made in Brazil, and promise me taller stature!
I scored a Cynthia Rowley tote in the coveted color of merlot, malbec, cabernet, pinot noir..... sorry I got derailed. I am not allowed to have my 5 o'clock glass of vino, doctor's orders, and I am missing it! ( I take a chemotherapy medicine for my autoimmune disease that does not mix well with alcohol..). Oh well, there are sunny skies and retail therapy, so back to that.. This bag was also $15.00!
I also bought two scarves: one lovely knitted one from Coach in a mid gray, set me back only $10. It is warm and I am wearing it tonight to see the movie Intersellar.
I also bought an unusual scarf that is knitted in a ruffle pattern , with alternating rows of chocolate-brown and space-dyed yard. It adds texture in the same way a fur scarf would, and adds some color, too. This will be a fun accessory to style. It was $8.00! There are such good thrift stores in the Hamptons, especially in the off-season.
I did buy two other bags, which will make an appearance in a future posts. I had a wonderful lunch with my close friend Casey, who is a jewelry designer, and I will show you her work in a future post, too.
I do not like cold weather, but it is lovely to be out here. I will get a chance to catch up on my favorite blogs, take some brisk walks, and enjoy some quiet. Here is a snapshot looking out, from the second floor landing in my house. It is so good to see green, for as long as it lasts, I am grateful.
Have a wonderful Sunday and rest up. Hugs from East Hampton.
