How quickly the days warmed up. With all of the talk about strange weather, I have found this a constant. Memorial day in the NY area is cool, and then summer follows fast on its heels. This is just what happened this year, and last year, and the year before that.
Last week I wore long pants in olive drab, James Perse cargo pants to be specific. So comfortable they are! I also wore a long sleeve striped tee, an old one from H&M children's department. My lightweight black jacket is structured and adds some contrast to the very casual pants. It is Valentino. My peep toes booties are lace up and have an athletic feel with this one detail. This outfit take me most anywhere.
These photos are taken in different places. I wore it to to lunch with my daughter, for errands later that day, and finally to an editing session for the T.V. series The Affair. I love this series, and am captivated each time, by the beginning of each episode, a video montage set perfectly to dark, brooding music. Being able to see how each slice of film was lovingly edited and expertly crafted, gave me insight into the enormous task of making television. Since I edit my own blog photos, I understood the terms being used. How much I have learned! How much less I know than an expert, a true virtuoso.
My outfit is completed by a clever cross body bag by SONIA RYKIEL. One side is matte leather and the other is a star-filled, laser-cut, hologram ! I can wear it either way! I love the details of this bag, and the "last week, this week" quality of it. A bag for any season and most any event. Best of all it was a gift from a dear friend, who seems to know me better than I know myself.
I liked this bag when I got it, mostly the sentiment of it. After a while I was able to fully appreciate it: discovering how each side was different, that each side of the strap was different, too. The flawless craftsmanship was evident, how comfortably it crosses my form was not. Now it feels like part of me. Not only is it the perfect lightweight and chic accessory, it is the perfect gift. It was from someone who knew me last week, and continues to know me this week as well.
I hope you can see some of the details better here. Can you make out the black pearlescent luster of the strap? ( like a Tahitian Pearl ). The dress making details of the Valentino Jacket? The soft luster of my James Perse cargo pants?
I was with family when I watched The Affair be edited frame by frame. My cousin is like a sibling to me, and I am so proud of his well earned success. I watched in awe as he and his team ( which he leads) made the final little tweaks of what will prove to be truly great television; adding saturation, adjusting mid-tones, adding red to the filter for drama...
We have also known each other since we were children, over half a century! I knew him when..and I know him now. How lucky we are to have friends and family we treasure; whom we can watch grown, adapt, and learn. I have watched him grow up and grow into himself as well. So, too, my friend who bought me this fabulous bag. A friend of 20 years, and a lifetime, too, it seems.
I will close with this funny shot of me. Jeez, I am slouching? I am usually careful to avoid this since I am not tall. I will blame it on these super comfy James Perse cargo pants, which I bought, btw, at great savings from Encore on Madison Avenue. This is not my best photo by a long shot. But it is a good shot of me, a reasonable facsimile of me this week: it nails my atttitude- (playful? happy? yes, to both) this week. We can never know the week to come.
Thanks Phebe and Steve! Have a great week, loves! XX, :) Elle
