Happy Friday lovelies! Last week I decided to walk to the flower district. I love it there. I took a wrong turn, though, and ended up elsewhere in the Flatiron district. I had no intention of shopping, but shopping I did, and that is how I ended up with this hooded striped maxi dress!
A wholesale- retail shop called Rico had a big display of dresses outside. The price for each item was $5.00, so I had to wander in. I bought one of the five dollar dresses ( you will see it soon) and 2 striped maxi dresses. The price for the striped dresses was 2 for $15.00. Wow- perfect for the beach! They had solid V neck maxis, too, at the same price of 2 for $15, so I bought 3, one for my daughter, one for my twin, and one for me! Perfect summer maxi dresses. Now back to my mission. "Which way is the flower district?", I asked a passerby. They looked at me strangely, pointed to their camera and said "sorry we tourist". Oh dear, I wish I bought my RX sunnies.
When I got home I tried on the dress, it fit well. I love stripes layered over stripes, so I tried my Chanel cardigan in striped cashmere. Perfect! I love mixing high and low-end . I added my navy espadrilles and my vintage Hermes tote. My leather tote was an Ebay win ( ebay France, 10 years ago, and a long sweet story, but bottom line is -(it is authentic and cost me $800.) I have worn this vintage Hermes tote quite a bit in the last decade!
I know, I know. You hate me, I can feel it. But it is not a Birken or Kelly and was purchased entirely in French, and it is not the way one normally buys on eBay, if say, you live in the US , and do not speak French. But you can shop this way, too; search for Hermes on eBay, do not add Birken and Kelly. Be open-minded. Go to eBay France, and add the word vintage, see what you come up with. Maybe your own vintage Hermes tote?
Here is the vintage Hermes tote bag. Not perfect, but very good condition, a perfect size to carry the things we girls need! The blue has some purple tones. The shade totally matches my shoes.
I will admit it, I am a blinking good shopper. Here is a photo of me sitting down, relaxing on the roof top terrace thinking about going back to the flatiron, and actually finding the flower district. It is so pretty to be in the city streets, in a quickly gentrifying neighborhood that still feels a bit gritty and real, and have flowers of many varieties everywhere!
This next photo is an odd choice. Sometimes I choose photos that do nothing to elucidate my outfit or the theme of my post. I like them solely for their quirky composition. This is one of them. Only a small bit of me- stripes on the side- but a good chunk of the neighboring building which I love for its beach-glass, green shade of window. I like the geometry of the column and the linear repeat of the windows, and the way the sun is glinting off those windows.
My bracelet, which you have seen twice now, is one of many from a street fair. Street fairs are a wonderful way to see a good diversity of merchandise, have a nibble of something that is just not good for you, and mingle in way that typifies New York. Have a wonderful weekend! X, Elle
