I bought this dress online at Gilt, a favorite flash sale sight. ( there is one left in the color I am wearing, but more available in a blue ikat that is also gorgeous, by Alice and Trixie. I like the slit of this silk maxi dress, it is not thigh high, which suits me better, and is cut out a bit which makes walking in long strides easy as pie. In the wind, it can really take flight. I wish these shots were taken at the beach!
I wore zip-front platform shoes with a block heel for a steady stride. My Andriana New York shoes are sold out. But these, from H&M, would also look fab with a silk maxi dress! I love platforms for the extra height they lend me! But this dress can be fun to wear barefoot, especially on the beach, if one were taller! ( or standing on tip toe next to a purple lighted tree :)
I added some rocks to this silk maxi, to give this outfit some texture. The smooth silk needed some contrast. I bought this bag at LVIS on Long Island, but saw a similar one a few months ago at STA on Madison Avenue. The bracelet is a recent birthday gift from hubby that I chose at the Peacock Throne in Manhattan. I love the hammered gold and the white and silver topaz stones set into sparkling arrows. My ring, set in rose gold, you may remember was a piece I purchased in Mexico. I love a bold ring worn on the index finger.
You can see that this dress is cut in a bit of an A-line. When the wind blows it can be fit like a slip dress, but this silk maxi is a loose cut, which I find comfy. Here it looks a bit sack like. but I love the way the background came out. Behind me was black glass windows, with photos on the bottom. When the photo was taken the reflection of the trees popped into the photo- a nice surprise!
The true shape of the dress is best shown here, when the wind ( and I ) were still. The ending photo is just a cool cropped bit of this, but I like the filter that gives it a hint of nostalgia. My birthday is coming up, and I like taking a moment to think back. For instance I can remember when I wore a silk, floral maxi dress to prom.....40 years ago! Gulp!
I hope your weekend has been pure pleasure! xx, Elle
