In NYC, the summer has been kind to us with gentle temps mostly in the high 70's. Last week I found myself outside on my roof top deck waiting for family to arrive, and I wore breezy palazzo pants, to stay in a low-key state of mind. I do find that wearing loose clothing is more relaxing. This was a day in which I did not want to feel reigned in.
As many of you know this has been a bittersweet summer for me. In times of personal distress I do look to friends, family, and natural beauty to keep my state of mind in its best possible place. I am lucky that a quick touch of an elevator button, can put me somewhere in the sky, at eye level with some beautifully rendered buildings, and with flowers all around. Ah, the roof deck; a perfect place to sit back, sip some vino,, and wear a comfy pair of palazzo pants.
This look was cool and summery, with the almost sheer chambray shirt, so I gave it some weight with a large and warm colored color blocked bag. The hardware of the bag gave it some weight, too, which felt like a better balance: both for the outfit I was wearing and the mood that I was in.
It is fun to be so high up, but can be dizzying too. So I stood cautiously, loving the feel of the breeze on my face and the way the palazzo pants skimmed my legs in the breeze. When you are about to lose someone you love dearly, it is good to be reminded of how small we are in the world, and conversely how much change a single action can affect. In the case of my father, it was a lifetime of these single actions. I stand up, carefully, with his final days in my heart and my mind. Timidly, I look down, and see the vastness that is the city, that personifies our world, and perspective comes easily.
My palazzo pants were thrifted in Long Island. I am so happy have found such a loungy pair of pants, they are dreamy to wear! My chambray shirt is an older Zara find and my comfy booties are from Easy Spirit.
Yes, this post really has a theme! I added the shadows to symbolize the bit of darkness around my mood, while maintaining my smile. The bag was a gift from a friend who traveled to Italy, and I love it. As well, my diamond Chopard watch was a gift from my sister whose heart knows no bounds. I rarely wear watches, but the concept of time is important to me now, so I chose this watch for its beauty and sentimentality. I do think it gives a bit of elegance to this laid back look and helps add some spark to my loungy Palazzo pants.
Do you have a favorite clothing item, that you choose for comfort primarily? Does it change your mood a bit?
Have a wonderful few days, enjoying, what I hope is sunshine, or the blessing of gentle breezes, or the bewitching combination of both!
