Nothing is Black and White. Except for my outfit today. It is comprised totally in the non -yielding colors of black and white. It is accented by an H&M scarf in stripes, a pinstripe cropped tee, and set against a backround that is heavy in lines, so the term came to mind, Linear Repeat.
I am not even sure it is a word, but I am using it anyway, because it is my blog, and I can invent words if I want to. (there is a term called repeating linear gradient, and it describes an element in pattern making, but it is way too cumbersome a word for my little post.)
The scarf is faux fur and I am trying to love it...but the topic of wearing fur will come soon, with the same conclusion, that nothing is quite Black and White. It is from H&M, and feels scratchy and cheap but photographs well, and is warm. Here is a close up photo.
The temperatures here in New York have been hopping around like the ever ready rabbit. When this was shot it was in the high 50s, and later that night it snowed in the burbs. The scarf is doing its thing and keeping me warm when the wind kicks up. In contrast to the theme of stripes and linear repeat, is an A line skirt ( more geometry, it seems) with a circle pocket.
This circle pocket skirt with its classic A line feels like a vintage skirt, harkening back to a time when clothing could be referred to as MOD. It is from H&M and is made well. It feels good on, is fully lined, and fits my tiny frame. It was also inexpensive, and I am thrilled to have a skirt that fits so well without alteration.
My brogue style shoes are in a kid-suede combo and are Italian made, and are so comfortable. They are walking shoes, as in Manhattan walking shoes, where one can walk 20 blocks at a clip, in pure comfort. They are made by a company called OH! Healthy Heels, I kid you not, are were purchased from flash sale site two years ago.
It is funny how the shade of black differs in color from the suede to the supple kidskin...So yes, black comes in many shades, so the concept of black and white as an absolute is hereby refuted. As we wardrobe connoisseurs know, they are many shades of black and many shades of white...
Here is a another close-up, where you can see I did add a tiny dollop of color ( liar, liar skirt on fire) with my three stone ring. My sunnies are older, and from Dolce & Gabbana., and also feel a bit MOD. I wore my patent pleather round bag from TJ Maxx. This repeats the pattern of the circle from the pocket, and goes with my theme of repeating circles and linear repeat.
How are you dealing with such mercurial weather? I for one, am pleased with the sprinkling of days in the upper 50s, but feel badly for others in my state who are inundated with snow. As well, this changeable weather pattern does not bode well for our planet, with severe drought in one locale, and damaging floods in another.
Happy am I to be standing here on a mild day, with the Holidays ahead. My pleasure, at least, is absolute. Sending hugs to my dear readers!
