Greetings! I am going to test your memory and fortitude. I plan to post my photos in an order that is not chronologically correct. This post will shows some photos of 2 weeks ago, when I was wearing a blue, lingerie style slip-dress in Santa Monica. Not exactly the "Winter Walk" photos you might have conjured up when reading my title. Ha, got you there!
Above, I am enjoying some sunny skies in Santa Monica. Temps hovered in the upper 60s, and not a cloud was in the sky. I am posting these now for two reasons: one it is good to see summery clothes and bright skies in the doldrums of winter ( as it is here) and two; because it gives a flash of insight about what to expect in the streets, stores and runways for spring/summer 2015. ( My photos may not do that, but hopefully the essence of this post will!)
I am wearing a chiffon dress with lingerie details. The undulating hem, and ruffled thin straps, as well as the neckline do suggest a lingerie style dress. The grosgrain ribbon that can be drawn in to adjust the way it blouses, feels like lingerie to me as well. But this lingerie style dress is fully lined, so when I move one can see between the filmy layer and the slip underneath, and not the form underneath. Got it? This looks sheer, but is buttressed by a full lining, for my sense of decorum. I am wearing it here with a structured black jacket, and even it is knitted and soft like a tee shirt. I am in California, and I will be comfortable!
Here is another shot, I love the backround for these shots; the cool pebbles, stacked artfully, pink budding flowers and verdent green grasses. Just an ordinary street in California, a state that I fell for hard, while there!
I was walking to lunch with my sister, who very graciously took these snaps for me. You can see snippets of her shadow near my feet. I am wearing my RX sunglasses from Max Mara, also in blue, and some nude suede zip up booties from Cole Haan.
Here is a close-up where you can see the grosgrain ribbon and some stacking rings from F21, that I wear for traveling in place of my diamond bands. Also there is a cool modern ring that I purchased from STA , Madison Avenue.
Another shot of me wearing the jacket. I always bring a layering piece when I venture outside, and I wear many of them in winter. Which you will see.....eventually.
This outfit looked great with the jacket buttoned. I was amazed at how transformed it was, and I am sorry I did not get a good picture of that. I do love a structured jacket with a detailed skirt, whether it be sequinned, ruched, or in a bold print. I feel like a jacket can anchor a more ethereal piece, and add some gravitas and/or balance.
The best thing about this dress is the price. It is made by company called Cecico, and I got it online form the FIFTEENDOLLARSTORE.COM . That is also where I got my tangerine peasant dress that I wore to Mexico, in the post called Miles Away.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE LINGERIE INFLUENCES IN FASHION ? We see plenty of it now, and certainly for the past 3 seasons in the "sheer" trend alone, and do I need to mention the popularity of fishnet stockings? Nah. I remember the slip dress trend in the 80's and still enjoy wearing it. I do think there is some need for some restraint in this area though, but again, that is coming from someone who is pushing 60 years on this planet.
Yet, some modesty is always best preserved. To do that, do not wear a plunging neckline with a short hemline. Look for a dress that is lined unless you are buying it for a beach cover up. Go for the look but, stop short of outlandish. Layer a slip dress with a longer, boyish cardi or a jacket. Those would be my tips for wearing this trend. Oh, and choose your foot wear wisely...
Here is a Pinterest board that I love. The photos from this board illustrates this trend so perfectly.
Have a wonderful week! It is almost Tuesday!
