My husband got me my favorite gift: Reese's cups and a romantic card. I bought a new red leather bag that looks like a cross between an Hermes Birken and an Hermes Kelly. I thought it would be nice to buy a red leather bag for Valentine's. Here I am with it, and you can see my dog Lucy. For Valentine's she got carrot sticks, but is none too pleased to be ignored just now. :(
This bag is new to me, but is not new. It is made by a company I had not heard of, La Finesse Model. It is high quality. The leather resembles Hermes Togo leather and the rolled handles are similar, very good quality. The gold fittings are nice and shiny, even as this is vintage. ( I think) I like that it is open like the Birkin, but with no flap, and has long handles. It is a perfect blend of both bags, with just enough extra handle that I can wear it as a shoulder bag. Here is a photo of my Hermes Kelly next to the red leather La Finesse, Model.
If you are in the market for an Hermes type bag, this may be a good way to go. It is well made, has the lock and key, and can be found second-hand. I saw one in green on Ebay for 400. The finishing is not as fine as Hermes, but it is a good bag, and not a copy cat bag. It is designed for better functionality, too, with the longer handles. I need not remind you how much the Hermes bags sell for!
I am wearing my new patched jeans. I love the wash, and the way they are patched from the inside. It is too cold to be wearing my torn jeans! I also love the materials they used for patching, a silver metallic leather like fabric and a navy batik! The label is BlankNYC. They fit snugly, but not too tight, and are finished well at the bottom so when you roll them up they go up smoothly. I was prepared to pay a fair amount for patched jeans, but I found these at thefifteendollarstore.com , so I spent very little!
I love a white shirt with denim. A classic white shirt is my favorite with patched jeans, but as this was a special occasion I chose something with a bit more detail, with embroidery and rows of eyelet. I also wore a necklace that is white gold and I do not mind the white gold clashing with the gold-tone hardware of the bag. The white gold does play well the metallic silver booties. ( and the bottom of the booties is the same red shade as my bag!)
Here is a photo that shows the bag somewhat better.
And here is a photo of what appears to be an engraving, and not a stamp. This is very unusual. Hermes does this.
The stitching is nicely done, but not as fine as Hermes. Plus the Hermes is top stitched in white.
And here is a close up shot of some of the details of my outfit.
The blouse is Chloe, and the booties are Christian Louboutin. My patched jeans are BlankNYC. My bracelet is vintage Chanel.
I had my hair and make up done professionally! I will introduce you to her and my friend who helped me style at the next post. I usually do not wear make up, ( other than lipstick and brow gel) but now I am a believer!
The day was simple, with the simplest joys; the last-minute arrangement to see my cherished daughter, and the thoughtful sweetness of my husband, a quality that I have learned that I can count on. WHAT could be better than that? Nothing, nada, zippo , squat. This I know in black and white.
Thank you to Erika and Shelly!
